Tim Bretl – Be Mindful of What Your Work Has Come to Mean

Rasheed Ibrahim will be pursuing an internship at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) this summer through CalTech’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) program.

Brain Awareness Day 2011 was a great success. Hundreds of people showed up, and we constantly had a long line for our exhibit (possibly even the longest). Both kids and parents were amazed by moving the Rhino Robot using motor imagery detected by the Emotiv EEG headset. Thanks go to Aadeel Akhtar, Bilal Mehdi, Miles Johnson, Abdullah Acke, Jamie Norton, and Matt Petrucci for putting together and running the exhibit. Pictures from our booth below.

Members from our lab will be presenting an exhibit entitled “Brain-Machine Interfaces: Control Your World” at the Neuroscience Program’s annual Brain Awareness Day. Kids and parents will be able to move a robot arm just with the power of their thought. The event will take place on Sunday, April 10 from 1-5pm at the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum in Champaign.

Congratulations to Aadeel Akhtar for receiving admission to the University of Illinois College of Medicine and Medical Scholars Program (MD/PhD) at UIUC!

Professor Tim Bretl will be giving a talk titled “Be Mindful of What Your Work has Come to Mean” at the TEDxUIUC 2011 Conference on February 19.

The 6th CSL Student Conference will be taking place on January 27-28 at the Coordinated Science Laboratory @UIUC. Many of our lab members will be giving talks and presenting posters.

Ben Parks will be doing a year-long internship at SpaceX during the 2010-2011 academic year.

Our lab and the Deere autonomous tractor team have had our first successful EEG-teleoperation test.
